IIA Certificate in Internal Audit and Business Risk

The IIA Certificate is a practical, accredited modular course that you can tailor to your needs. If you're new to internal audit, need a refresher, or you work in a related role, such as compliance, it will give you a thorough grounding in the practice and principles of audit, governance, risk and assurance.

The IIA Certificate enables you to:

Eligibility

The certificate can be completed in one year. It requires no previous experience and leads to the IACert designation.

There are no exams to sit and the IIA Certificate is not graded. You will be assessed through personal development logs and your professional experience record. 


What you need to gain the certificate

In studying for the certificate, you will need to complete four awards from the list below to earn the IACert designation, including two core IIA awards and two optional IIA awards.

You can also study any of the awards as a standalone course if you wish. Each one will give you a thorough grounding in the practice and principles of one of the cornerstones of internal audit.

IIA Award in corporate governance and risk management

Learn about the essential characteristics of corporate governance and risk management, and the contribution they make to organisational effectiveness.

Studying for your qualification

Each award requires about 30 hours of learning through reading, reflection, workshop attendance and completion of a personal development log

You will need to do some reading and set objectives before attending each workshop. Then, you will submit a personal development log for each award within six weeks of the workshop.

Most people spend the time approximately as follows:

  • Pre-workshop reading and preparation: 4 hours
  • Attendance at the workshop (over two days): 14 hours
  • Review of learning from workshop: 2 hours
  • Post-workshop reading and reflection: 4 hours
  • Completion of personal development log: 6 hours

The final stage is to submit your professional experience record


Cost

It costs £3,852 + VAT to complete the four IIA Certificate awards. This includes all learning texts, four face-face workshops, and the assessments.

You must be a member of the Chartered IIA to study the qualification. If you're not a member, the cost will be £4,822.40 (inc VAT), which includes one year's affiliate membership of £200 VAT exempt.
